The End of Summer

The end of summer is here. Why does it always feel like the most magical time—and the time that always goes by so fast?

I think as a mom, you feel that even more. Planning activities and trips, trying to get ahead of bringing a little extra fun to this wonderful time, but somehow trying to be present through all of it too. Maybe it’s all of the juggling that makes everything fly by.

This year, summer feels especially hard to let go of because, for the first time, my daughter is going to school… Tomorrow.

We’re currently in Austin, Texas, so it’s hardly fall weather is upon us, but the beginning of school marks a very special change. New routines. New experiences. This shift will be good for all of us.

There is always so much anticipation and excitement around the next milestone and what’s ahead—sleeping through the night, walking, talking, potty training, and now preschool. But on the other side of each of these incredible changes, my mind is always racing with the same thought: How did we get here so fast?

I’m not sure what the answer is for how to enjoy these moments even more, especially when you’re also trying to find the patience and strength for the challenging parts. Maybe it’s simply noticing a little more.

Staying five more minutes at the pool. Saying yes to the popsicle you maybe would’ve said no to. Painting the little toddler toes a fresh coat of pink for the 10th time. Taking the picture, but also putting down the phone. And just recognizing that these days are the days we will one day wish we had back.

So cheers to summer. Cheers to encouraging our little ones to keep growing. Cheers to all of the hard work and time you spent this summer making sure everyone was happy—and hopefully your happiness was a part of that too.

I know I had a lot of fun myself.

I’m not really ready to say goodbye to so many things. The ocean adventures. The warm sunshine. The early morning coffee dates as a family...

But I’m hopeful this next season has a lot of new memories to bring.

Wish me luck tomorrow walking our girl into school—I’m going to need it!!

Until next time,

Julie
